Poppy seed oil IVF utilises an additional technique of tubal flushing to clear out the fallopian tubes prior to the IVF cycle. Studies have shown that flushing (with a medical grade poppy seed oil) can increase pregnancy rates by up to 37%. It is also believed to have an immunological benefit to the uterus giving the embryo a better chance to survive.

The tubal flushing takes place prior to the IVF cycle and involves a catheter being inserted into the uterus to allow the poppy seed oil to flush through it and into the fallopian tubes.
